nearly narrative

to make the series of images more than just a nice album there has to be a deeper meaning behind the shots, to quote Susan Lipper a New York photographer she saw her work as 'not an effort to document, in any real sense... the rather the collision of my experiences, the tangible world and nature of photography".

This is helped if the photos are opened to interoperation so people have to make there own story to fit the pictures
with my series I will be asking the viewer if Gum Men is art or vandalism ?
how is art defined by them?
Is it art if you can't see it?

these sort of questions will be asked at the start of the book and then the same questions will be asked at the end of the book.
hopefully by having the the same question asked twice at the beginning and end people do start to think about the questions being asked.

Gum men

Think my idea for the book is to have the book printed on cardboard then bound with cable ties the reason behind this is so the book relates back to the urban environment in which the images come from. The size of the book will be about A4.

jeff wall

What I got from this article is the way it is described and references different forms of art and how important narrative is to the set of images to make them with more meaning.
ref to jeff wall image "A view from an apartment" the scene looks like a snap shot but in fact it has been carefully built.
This is good to know when I do mine because it means that I can reference different similar street art.

idea

the idea I have for my book is to have a series of photographs that deal with the concept of art and how people represent art in the urban environment. One of my side projects at the moment is to make people out of gum then stick them around the city then take photos of them, once I have taken them I put them onto my tumblr. So through the exploration of the book I will get people to hopeful think of urban art in a critical way.
Here some samples of my "Gum Men"
